Claudia York

April 12, 1921 ~ December 20, 2012 (age 91) 91 Years Old
Claudia (Baby Doll) York passed away peacefully Thursday, December 20, 2012, following a fifty-year battle with rheumatoid arthritis. Her Lab job in electronics in the P1 Division was limited to twenty-five years due to her illness. Baby Doll’s goal was to fight to live her life at her home and not at a home. For sixty-two years and twenty days her home address remained the same; a lesser woman would have given up years ago.
She was born in Stanley, New Mexico on April 12, 1921 and raised on the Row Mesa homestead that her family started farming in 1916. They enjoyed the company of many of the other homesteaders, because in the early years they had the only well. She married Hal York in 1938 and honeymooned in Yosemite Park for two years while he worked on putting in the first paved road there. After moving to Oklahoma for two years and two children, the war came and she returned to Stanley to raise her children and her two youngest siblings. When the war ended, they moved to Los Alamos and became a part of the first generation in the new city. Baby Doll touched the lives of all those she met. Her wit and her humor brightened the work place and her home. She was known as a good cook and her cinnamon nut rolls and German chocolate cake are legendary. For many decades she was a member of Eastern Stars and was active in the beginning of the Pentecostal believers here in L.A.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal York; her daughter, Linda Ann Mefford; her grandson, Jesse Mefford; her parents, Newton and Ruby Childers; brothers, Alfred, Jinx, Cowboy, and Jigs; sisters, Ruby and Lois. She is survived by her siblings, Edra, Johnnie, and Bonnie; children, Doug York, Ruby Bone; Linda’s son, Doug Mefford and three other grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2012 at McGee Memorial Chapel in Santa Fe.  A graveside service will held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m.
